Used to treat arthritis, bursitis & gout and to lower cholesteral. Shows anti-tumour activity against melanoma in mice. Steroidal saponins are detergent and surfactant, used to seperate mined ore and prepare photographic emulsion, lipstick & shampoo and to put the head on root beer. Sarsaponin added to livestock feed absorbs ammonia to mitigate the stench of hog farms & battery hens and may reduce production of the greenhouse gas methane in cattle. Yucca flowers are blanched and eaten in omelets in El Salvador.
