Biography / statement:
I was born in Melbourne, Australia 1963. On graduating from Elam School of Fine Arts in 1991, I worked as an anthropological photographer at The University of Auckland for 10 years. Since 2001, I have been self-employed as a photographer/graphic designer and work from home on South Kaipara Head.
I photograph 'places' (land/sea/skyscapes, sites and structures) throughout New Zealand and internationally, however my intention is to create a locationally indistinct image that is more of an emotional metaphor (for myself) - and hopefully for the viewer, evocation of feeling, sensation or reminiscence that may not necessarily be easily described with words.
Having worked as an ethnographic and archaeological photographer, I see my 'personal' images as flip-side to the anthropological context where location, time and forensics are explicit concerns.
