Tamara Dean, Beneath the Surface, 2015

Doors of Perception is an exploration of feelings and fantasies provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic and its associated inertia. Curator Pippa Mott proposes a contemporary view of psychogeography – the influence of place on human behaviour and emotion. With the obstruction of movement on a global and local scale, immediate habitats have taken on new meaning whilst, for some, interior worlds have flourished. The show considers notions of home and the natural world, borders and boundaries, nostalgia and wistfulness, wanderlust and inward retreat, portals and parallel worlds.

Pippa Mott is a curator at Mona (the Museum of Old and New Art) and a writer for Artist Profile. In August 2021, she commences a Master of Arts in Art History and Curating at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, with the support of a Fulbright Scholarship.

Visions extends huge thanks to all the participating artists and their supporting galleries.
