Webb’s is proud to present the single-owner only sale Photographs from the Collection of John B Turner. As an art teacher, founding editor of PhotoForum, curator, photo historian, artist, publisher, collector and passionate supporter of other photographers, John B Turner has strongly influenced modern photography in New Zealand.

John B Turner’s collection contains an incredible array of work by a broad range of photographers from Aotearoa and afar. The selection in this auction is almost entirely comprised of black and white analogue photographs covering many decades of diverse subject matter, including architecture, landscape, portraits of political figures, and much more.

Turner’s rare early works feature in the auction alongside images by Peter Peryer, Robin Morrison, John Daley, Bryony Dalefield, Mac Miller and other significant New Zealand photographers. Historical works by J W Chapman-Taylor and Gordon H Burt also feature. Works by US artists Morrie Camhi, Joseph D Jachna, Jr, and Michael A Smith are included, along with those of Chinese images by Fang Su and Wang Qing and some Chinese historical works that reflect Turner’s broad interests.

From Easter Show portfolio, Andrew Milne-Allan, Clive Stone, Jill Jessup, Lesley Lash, Louise Wilson, Neil Chitty, Nicholas Empson, Parbhu Makan, 1973
