Skateface chronicles the Roller Derby scene of Aotearoa between 2011 and 2015. What started as a project for my Diploma in Photography ended up as a conceptual series documenting a critical point in the evolution of Roller Derby.
"I enjoyed documenting these athletes, learning about the culture that inspires them to play a full contact sport."
This series and book raises their profile and provides a portal into lives that have been reshaped and enhanced by derby. In rugby mad New Zealand it is extremely difficult for many lesser known sports to attract media attention
Skateface is an art focussed series weighing in on representation and challenges societal perceptions of gender behaviour.
