Tarawera; photographs for Now Voyager magazine

June - July 2026
June 10th, 2026, will mark 140 years since the eruption of Mt Tarawera.
Not entirely by coincidence, we have a selection of photographs of Lake Tarawera and surrounds made by Andrew Ross on an assignment for the New York magazine 'Now Voyager'. The panorama was published as a double pullout. The Hinimihi Meeting House and one other photograph appeared in Issue 1, 2026, with a story by NZ writer Sean Williams - 'Beneath the Long White Cloud'.
'Now Voyager' is published by The Erythraean Foundation. There is a viewing copy in the gallery but the magazine is probably unavailable in NZ. This linked content can be read fully with a subscription.
Andrew's Tarawera photos are on display in my office (Gallery Room 4, if you like) this month and next.
Note: gallery hours are now 10am-2pm Mon-Fri, 11am-2pm Saturdays. I am taking days and half-days out occasionally so if you're making a special trip, contact to check I'm in. Actually, checking my available times to take passport photos on this page is quicker! It is updated daily and says when I'm definitely here.
