Cross Track

Faye Norman and Jenny Tomlin’s works explore overlooked and untracked routes – natural spaces and found objects that exist alongside suburbia. Tomlin intuitively uses pinhole to interpret the space as felt rather than seen, producing images that are interpretive rather than strictly realist. The variability and serendipity of pinhole encourage moving offtrack and exploring the deeper bush over extended periods of time.

Norman gathers materials through chance encounters, and these are brought into the Cell Block Studio. Scanning and subtle visual manipulations transform these objects into dislocated traces. Though altered, the images retain connections to their original contexts, creating a delicate tension between origin and presentation.

In the exhibition, external locations and materials converge, where traces of past use and environmental conditions remain visible, producing a quiet sense of the uncanny.
