LIGHT+SHADE brings together some of the finest contemporary press photographers in New Zealand in a showcase of local talent.
Photojournalist Jason Oxenham and his support team of Michael Craig, Alex Robertson and Mike Scott, curated a selection from over 30 photographers who have offered their skills to help a friend and colleague at a time of need. 70 framed images are on display in the Queen Street gallery and another 40 images are also able to be viewed on this website.
Jason has been capturing the pulse of New Zealand for over 30 years. A student of light and shadow, his images have told our stories with raw honesty and grace. He's now facing the biggest story of his own life, a relentless battle with blood cancer multiple myeloma, he’s turned the camera around.
The fundraising is to help pay for the CAR-T cell therapy he has just received in Shanghai, China after he had run out of funded treatment options here.
LIGHT+SHADE isn’t just an exhibition, it’s a rally cry, a love letter to photo-journalism and a testament to friendship.
With fellow photographers by his side Jason is turning adversity into artistry and inviting the nation to see, feel and stand alongside him.
All photo prints on display are available to purchase framed (at the gallery) or unframed with profits going toward Jason’s treatment in his fight for life.
