Megan Jenkinson, Untitled, 2026
Megan Jenkinson has always been interested in history and systems for understanding the world – whether classical Greek and Roman philosophical ideals, or the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging known as ikebana, which has informed the structure and principles of her new photocollages.
The natural world blossoms often in her work, yet it’s tightly controlled rather than chaotic and wild – flowers and fruits appear in curvaceous vases with shadowy interior backdrops; leaves are placed in mosaic-like patterns on stark, white backgrounds. For instance, on closer inspection the centres of some of the flowers are constructed from tangled skeins of wire – nature and culture engaged in an uneasy dialogue in these off-kilter assemblages.
