PhotoForum Open Call 2025
OPEN CALL FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK
PhotoForum invites submissions for a series of open calls.
1. PhotoForum Print Publications
PhotoForum has a dynamic publishing programme, producing two publications each year and we welcome submissions from photographers based in Aotearoa New Zealand. We are looking for engaging recent photographic projects to be developed as our upcoming photobooks.
Each publication will be issued as a limited edition with the majority sent to subscribed members. All publishing costs will be covered by PhotoForum. The artists will not receive any payment but will receive 5 copies of the book. Copyright of the images will remain with the artists.
2. Online Exhibitions
In 2026 PhotoForum aims to publish a series of four online exhibitions that showcase a wide selection of photographic work alongside newly commissioned writing. These online exhibitions are open to individual photographers as well as partnerships, collaborations and collectives. Selected photographers will receive a modest fee for online publication.
Publication will likely be between March and November 2026. We see the involvement of writers as essential to creating a discourse around photographic artworks and widening the audience for both photography and the writing about photography.
General Information
Submissions should be sent as a pdf, accompanied by a short artist statement (approx. 200 words) and bio.
The final decisions about work to be published will be made by PhotoForum’s Publications and Online Subcommittees and will be guided by the following criteria:
Do we love the work?
Is the proposed project cohesive and relatively resolved in its scope?
Is the project consistent with our vision to continue a strong legacy of significant photographic publications in Aotearoa New Zealand?
We look forward to your photobook and online exhibition proposals.
We need your help to continue providing a year-round programme of online reviews, interviews, portfolios, videos and listings that is free for everyone to access. We’d also like to dream bigger with the services we offer to photographers and the visual arts.
We’ve partnered with Press Patron to give readers the opportunity to support PhotoForum Online.
Every donation helps.
