Opening Night + Book Launch: 16 March 5.30–7.30pm

TEMPORAL presents a photographic survey documented over five years that spans across fault lines, islands, and coastlines throughout Aotearoa.

In this new body of work, Johnny McCormack returns to picturing the imposing landforms and outlines of mountains and tidelines he is known for – inviting us even closer into these formidable scenes. Delicate facades, rendered in acute detail via the photographer’s lens, reveal geologic timescales, climatic weathering, and the tectonic, glacial drift etched into the land.

Johnny (Ngāi Tahu) was born in Ōtautahi Christchurch, raised in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington and now based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. He studied at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University, graduating with a Bachelor of Design, majoring in photography. Working within the expanded documentary tradition he uses the camera as a tool for recording a landscape in flux.

Accompanying the exhibition Johnny will be launching his self-published photobook TEMPORAL.
