Cathy Carter, Motu-O-Kura Waves, 2021

After her artist residency at Waimarama in 2017/18, Cathy Carter returns for her 3rd solo show with Muse. Some of the original images from that residency, which reimagined our iconic beach, still form part of her new show, Wave Function, updated and jazzed in a vibrant new colour palette.

Carter continues her exploration of bodies of water through the lens of climate change, psychology and now physics. Wave Function connects our experience of waves – in the ocean, in the way light travels, and in the practice of observation – as the essence of existence. The works in Wave Function, like the equation in quantum mechanics, explore fundamental questions about the nature of perception and our ‘place/s’ in a multiverse.
