Artist statement:
An astonishing fact is that we are 8 billion people on our very own spaceship. Another astonishing fact is that approximately one third of those people cannot see the night sky.

“I am fortunate to have been aware of our place in space since I was a child and over the last twenty years have used this to channel curious ideas into visual art.”

Ursula is a Wairarapa artist who creates both whimsical and socio-political pieces by incorporating folded canvas, photographic & other elements into her work, to create a unique style. A background in science and technology blends perfectly with her creative nature, and she enjoys encouraging people to look at life, and space, a little differently. Her homemade 6” telescope is accurate but has never yet picked out dead satellites on the moon.

“I was in IT for some decades, then arty for others, and an early introduction to Photoshop got me combining the two. I still use an old CS2 version and refuse to touch AI. I guess my days are numbered.”

This selection of composite images has been created from an extensive collection of photographs from many places around the country. Cogitating is a major aspect of creativity. You may be able to spot various everyday articles alongside painted snippets, building structures and props. Kind friends posed for me where I couldn't choreograph myself. There are layers of interpretation. You may choose your own.
